INDIA NATIONAL SYMBOLS -7(NATIONAL FLOWER"LOTUS")





Lotus is the National flower of India. Lotus is a sacred flower in Indian culture it having religious and spiritual values in the Hindu religion from ancient times.
The lotus represents Indian knowledge, fertility, divinity, wealth and enlightenment. Lotus stands for the purity of heart and minds it also symbolizes a long life, honor and good future. It used in worship practices and it is the favorite flower of Devi Maa Laxmi & God Vishnu.



 

The scientific name of Lotus is 'Nelumbo Nucifera Gaertn'. Lotus belongs to the Monotypic Family Nelumbonaceae. The flower grows in murky/muddy waters and rises on a long stalk above the surface to bloom. Under favorable circumstances, its seeds may remain viable for many years, with the oldest recorded lotus germination being from that of seeds 1,300 years old recovered from a dry lake-bed in north-eastern China.
It also is known as Indian Lotus, Sacred Lotus, Bean of India.
