Matheran Hill Station Maharastra India






Matheran is a Hill Station Raigadh district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the smallest hill station in India. It is located on the Western Ghats range, around 90 km from Mumbai, and 120 km from Pune.


The nearest Railway Station is Neral. From Neral Toy train and Taxi are the ways to reach Matheran.


Matheran is all about views, which can be observed at 28 points, 2 lakes, 2 parks. Some of the points are Alexander Pt., Rambagh Pt, Little Chowk Pt, Big Chowk Pt, One Tree Hill Pt, Belvedere Pt, Olympia Race Course, Lords Pt, Charlotte Lake, Celia Pt (a waterfall mouth), Echo Pt., Porcupine Pt (Sun Set Pt), Panorama Point (Sun Rise Pt), Khandala Pt, Madhavji Garden & Point, Matheran Railway Station, Louisa Point, Mayra Point.




When to go: You can go anytime for a good weekend trip. The lush green surroundings, rains, fog, densely forested and wildlife-rich makes monsoon(July-September) the best time to visit the place July- September.



We visited the place in the month of August, started early morning and explore the places for the entire day, waterfalls, lakes, clicked snaps, done river crossing and valley crossing.




 Rain and fog curtained excitement for the entire day. Instead of using a conventional way to return we decided to trek down to a village 20 km away from Panvel, the trek was the most memorable part of the trip as we reached down at 7:30 pm and found there is no means of transport to reach Panvel.  


Finally, we convinced a local guy to help us and reach Panvel at 9:00 pm.

    Knowing them is needed especially for the people who do visit India as an interest and i personally find it a good place so yeah bus from nyc to columbus ohio is the source of my traveling personally which was fine enough in a lot of manners.

    Good post. Its really useful. One of the UNESCO World Heritage sites in India, Matheran Hill Railways offer a unique experience as it goes through tunnels on mountains surrounded by lush greenery and sweeping views of the adjoining areas. Check out all mountain railways in India also.
